The filling system consists of an easy-to-use, in-house piston filler, made by Stipula. The cap is small, and upon removing it reveals a fully retractable nib, that is turned into place by placing the cap in the bottom of the pen and twisting. Unlike other “safety pens” from the past, the Iris is as easy to fill as a standard piston pen and requires no special handling to prevent unintentional ink spills. The clip even rotates through 360° to accommodate the different writing styles that the user may have or develop.

About the Iris name-It was Christmas 1999 when the founder of Stipula came upon some old photographs of a long forgotten member of the family. Her name was Iris, and she had left Florence at the height of the roaring 20’s to pursue the bright lights and excitement of New York City. Although a few letters were sent describing her new home, Iris became a family mystery. How had she faired in her adopted country? Were her dreams of the Broadway stage ever realized? It is in her honour that the family members of Stipula dedicate this timeless fountain pen.
