Nose-Twist Pencils (Rotating the Tip to Advance Lead)

By twisting the literal cone or nose-piece at the very front of the pencil to push the lead out, this is a distinct mechanical design called a nose-twist or front-twist pencil
  1. Reset the mechanism: Twist the pencil's nose cone or cap all the way counter-clockwise until it stops. (For some vintage pencils, you twist clockwise until the internal metal rod/pin pushes all the way out of the tip, then back it up a tiny bit).
  2. Insert the lead: Take a single stick of lead and gently slide it directly into the hole at the very tip of the nose cone.
  3. Seat the lead: Press the lead in gently until it meets the internal mechanism. If it is a vintage 1.1mm pencil, press the tip firmly against a hard surface like a desk to seat it into the internal clutch pocket.
  4. Retract: Twist the pencil to draw the lead back into the barrel to your preferred writing length.

Condition: Pre-owned. There are no major imperfections to note: no chips cracks or any sign of faults or surface wear.

EVERSHARP, the inventor and first successful mass marketer of the mechanical pencil, goes back to 1915. WAHL was the brand name given to some of the finest fountain pens ever made and goes back to 1917. The hyphenated name WAHL-EVERSHARP first appeared on some of the finest “golden era” fountain pens in 1929.
