Hard rubber is a very stable material, but it is vulnerable to fading when exposed to bright light.Rubber pens should NEVER be immersed in water. Exteriors need to be wiped with a damp cloth at best - old HR will react with water and almost immediately oxidize to a brown colour and it can't be reversed.
Waterman's Ideal No. 52 is one of the company's most popular models–particularly from their early years. They started manufacturing the 52 (under that designation) in 1919, mainly out of black hard rubber.
